Your home is your castle and the place you take great pride knowing it is clean for you and your family. Everyone has budget concerns when hiring a Portland carpet cleaning company. I understand the importance of receiving value for your cleaning dollars.
Tips
To help you find a great carpet cleaner in your area I am going to offer a couple tips.
To find a carpet cleaner I would recommend reading reviews from their customers. Some carpet cleaners have video testimonials that feature the carpet cleaner’s clients talking about their cleaning experience on video. You can also read carpet cleaning reviews on google reviews.
Another tip I would mention is to hire a carpet cleaner that is certified by the IICRC. A carpet cleaner who is certified is dedicated to learning how to properly clean carpet. By reading the carpet cleaner’s reviews you will most likely read about their client’s past cleaning experiences and how the carpet cleaner you are reviewing provided great service and the exact type of service he/she provided.
So when looking for a great carpet cleaner remember to look at their reviews on google. This a great source for finding the best carpet cleaner in your area.

How To “Spill Proof” Your Home!
You could go through and cover your home in plastic. You know, crinkly, thick plastic just like you see some grandmas on TV shows doing. Just imagine how comfortable that would be. No way! Don’t worry today there are products available that do the same job as that plastic by putting a little barrier between your carpets/fabrics and stains. It’s invisible and you can’t feel it. But it works.
These protective barriers are usually applied to your carpets and upholstered items at the factory. But with time, wear and cleanings the protective finish diminishes and your carpets and furniture become vulnerable to stains.
As a professional carpet and upholstery cleaner in Portland I have access to the best of the best of these protective products and can properly re-apply them so that your furniture and carpets are virtually “spill proof”. I can help you to determine how long it’s been since your furniture and carpets have been protected and determine a schedule for re-applications.
“Is It Safe? How Does It Work?”
These products have been used in homes and on furniture for decades. The newest products arenon-toxic, safe for you, your family and your pets. They are CFC and solvent free.
They work by creating a protective shield around each fiber. This shield turns your furniture and carpets into stain repellers. Today’s protectants offer:
- Stronger protection against oil-based spills and stains
- Outstanding dry soil resistance
- Excellent repellency- spills will bead up instead of soak in
- They work great on all carpet fibers and most upholstery fibers
- They are safe and non-toxic
- Your vacuuming will be more efficient and your carpets/upholstery easier to clean
- Your carpets and upholstery will stay cleaner and brighter longer
As a bonus it’s good to note that some carpet manufacturer’s will void your carpet’s warranty if it is not properly maintained and protected with the right products.

Every so often I receive a call at my carpet cleaning Portland office asking how often carpet should be cleaned?
Carpet manufacturers recommend that carpets should be professionally cleaned every 6-18 months.
In most cases I would recommend having your carpets cleaned at least once a year. To help my great Portland carpet cleaning clients take the best care of their home I offer specials to get their carpets cleaned twice a year.
The advantages to regular cleaning is that it maintains your carpet manufactuers warranty, keeps filtration lines in check, improves in-door air quality, and much more.
It feels really great when I can go out and clean some really dirty carpet and make it look like new again. Hey, I haven’t developed a great bag of magic cleaning tricks for nothing.

The other day I received a call at my Carpet Cleaning Portland office by a new client that had some carpet in need of a thorough cleaning. I was intrigued and wanted to learn more about the carpet. We discussed previous incidents that happened to the carpet. I learned that there had been previous pet issues and the occasional spills. To my surprise she mentioned that the carpet was wool Berber. Usually, Berber is made from olefin. Hey, I learned something new today! I explained the extensive cleaning process that I could provide to get her carpet as clean as possible. I explained each step in detail and pointed out some facts about her wool carpet. Then I learned something shocking! The carpet was wool and it was spot cleaned with an oxygen cleaner. You know one of those “As Seen On TV” miracle cleaners. Yes, they are great but why is this shocking you wonder? Usually cleaning agents that say oxygen on them are actually a form of bleach. That’s right, bleach!!!
Okay, when spot cleaning wool carpet is it not a good idea to use oxygen based cleaners, because this has a major chance of pulling the color out of the carpet.
Make sure to use specialized cleaners designed to work with wool when spot cleaning them. If you cannot remove a spot from your wool carpet then, please give me a call at 503-922-4875 or 360-901-8686 or visit my website at: www.seanscarpetcare.com

You thought that with having your carpets cleaned you would get rid of those annoying spots. The carpets looked great right after the carpet cleaner finished, but to your surprise many of the spots came back a few days later. You searched hard to find a great carpet cleaner in Portland and wind up receiving the same disappointing service as the time before. According to one of my friends at Las Cruces Carpet Cleaning, he says you are not alone. His clients who call him at his carpet cleaning Las Cruces, New Mexico office complain of the same problems everyday.
We have had discussions about the reasons why spots return. Emilio at Fibercare says one of the reasons why spots return after cleaning is because most cleaners only provide a surface cleaning. Residue down low in the carpet pile is not removed with a service cleaning. The minimal water from a surface cleaning does not flush out the residue and only provides an excellent highway for that residue to wick to the top of the carpet. As Emilio at Las Cruces carpet cleaning states, “Everything dries upwards.” Surface cleaning occurs when the carpet is cleaned rapidly.
One way to help reduce the re-occurance of spots after carpet cleaning is to hire a carpet cleaner that uses Rotary Jet Extraction carpet cleaning. This process uses hot water extraction with a rotary extraction tool that completely flushes out the carpet.
If you are looking for a carpet cleaner that combines hot water extraction with rotary jet extraction then give me a call at 503-922-4875 / 360-901-8686 or visit my website at: www.seanscarpetcare.com
If you are in El Paso or New Mexico and need a great carpet cleaner then contact Emilio Martinez at FiberCare.

Today, I left early to perform carpet cleaning in a Portland area home that I visited 2 weeks ago to provide the owners with a carpet audit. Originally, there was a large are rug placed on top of the carpet in the dinning room. When I showed up to clean the carpet in this Tualatin home the rug was removed and to my surprise there was a large yellow discoloration of the carpet exactly where the rug was placed before.
What Caused the Carpet to Turn Yellow?
The rubber backing in many rugs, especially bathroom rugs with latex backing, give off a gas called BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene). Over time the latex backed rugs turn yellow. If a rug is placed on top of capet that has a rubber backing then there is a good chance that when the BHT off gasses it will turn the carpet yellow. Usually, the yellow stain is permannent, but sometimes a professional carpet cleaner can remove the yellow stain from the carpet.

So you went out and bought some nice wool carpet or a beautiful wool rug. Wool is the finest of the fibers. You love how soft it feels and how resilient it is to wear and soil.
Your favorite pet wanted to give the carpet or rug a proper welcome by marking its territory on the fiber.
You Have Pet Urine on the Wool and Now Wonder, “What can I do?”
Natural fibers are great! The only problem is that the high alkalinity of pet urine decreases the options to clean the affected areas without permanently damaging the fibers. The best option is to blot up the affected area as soon as possible. Then call a professional Portland carpet cleaner to help remove the odor.
There are a few specialized treatments that professional carpet cleaners can use to help remove urine from natural fibers in wool carpet and wool rugs.
If you need help with removing pet urine from your wool carpet or rugs, please give us a call 503-922- 4875 or 360-901-8686 Sean’s Carpet Care

Secrets to Persian and Oriental Rug Care and Maintenance
There are four steps that homeowners can do to increase the life of their rugs. These tips will help to provide years of enjoyment to your rugs and leave them beautiful for years to come.
1 – Vacuum Frequently: Dirt is an enemy to fibers of carpets and rugs. Vacuuming is great for a rug, as long as care is taken to keep the fringes from being sucked up into the vacuum. Every so often it is a good idea to flip the rug over and vacuum the back of the rug. Vacuuming the back helps to loosen up some the deep down dirt.
2 – Rotate the Rug every 6 months. This will help it wear evenly, and prevent areas that get more traffic or sunlight from soiling and fading faster than the rest of the rug.
3 – Spot Clean it with Club Soda: Be careful with store bought cleaning products that have “wool” in their name. Many of these have brighteners that can damage the wool.
4 – Have it Professionally Cleaned Every 1-3 years. This may sound obvious or you’d expect me to say that. Cleaning your rug every so often protects your investment. Keeping the abrasive soils washed out of the carpet can help your rugs last for years. If your rug is not properly cleaned on a regular basis the rug can wear out within ten to fifteen years. Cleaning Frequency: Rugs in high traffic areas like entries, living rooms and kitchens should be cleaned yearly. Rugs that see less traffic, like a master bedroom, might be OK with cleaning every 2 years, and a seldom-used rug in a guest room every 3-5 years.
